He has handled an extensive range of criminal defense matters, including misdemeanors, felonies, and DUI cases. Beyond his strong defense practice, Mr. Mutimer has also built a distinguished reputation as one of the region’s leading attorneys for criminal investigations, grand jury witness representation, and civil protection order cases.

His relentless commitment to protecting his clients’ rights has earned him Martindale-Hubbell’s prestigious “AV Preeminent” peer-review rating. He has also been recognized as a Washington, D.C. “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine and named among the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40 for DUI and Criminal Defense.

With over 100 Google Business reviews, both clients and colleagues consistently describe Mr. Mutimer as an assertive, passionate advocate who truly cares about the people he represents and fights tirelessly on their behalf.

    Founding Monument Legal

Before co-founding Monument Legal PC, Mr. Mutimer spent more than eight years as a partner at Scrofano Law. During his time there, he played a key role in transforming the firm from a single Washington, D.C. office into a multi-state practice with locations in Maryland and Virginia.
In 2024, he and his partner, Jay Mykytiuk, left Scrofano Law to establish a new law firm built on a smart, modern, and streamlined approach to legal representation. Their mission was simple: prioritize clients first, business second. With a commitment to aggressive, skilled, and compassionate advocacy at its core, Monument Legal PC was founded.

    Mr. Mutimer’s Early Years

A Maryland native raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Christopher Mutimer graduated Magna Cum Laude from American University before earning his Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
In 2017, he completed the prestigious Trial Lawyers College in Wyoming—an elite advocacy program created by legendary trial attorney Gerry Spence. That same year, he obtained certification in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing in Atlanta, Georgia, further strengthening his ability to defend DUI cases.

He is a proud member of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. And as a local point of pride, Mr. Mutimer even has a drink named after him at a D.C. establishment: “Mutimer’s Closing Argument.”

    Aggressive Criminal Defense Advocacy

Known for his precision, integrity, and relentless advocacy, Mr. Mutimer has represented clients holding some of the highest-level security clearances in the country. He has also served members of the U.S. military, including successfully arguing on behalf of a young Marine Corps Officer before the JAG Corps at Quantico.
His professionalism and poise have led to interviews with The Washington Post, The Washingtonian, Eater, and Fox News. Outside the courtroom, he enjoys mentoring the next generation of lawyers. Each year, he teaches a course at the George Washington School of Law on Domestic Violence, as well as a Continuing Legal Education class for the D.C. Bar titled “How to Handle a Criminal Case in D.C. Superior Court.”

    Life Outside of Monument Legal

For more than two decades, Mr. Mutimer has made Washington, D.C. his home. He currently lives on Capitol Hill with his wife and son. When he’s not advocating for clients, he enjoys traveling, boating, attending live music events, and running. His passion for running has taken him beyond traditional races—he has competed in both marathons and ultra-marathons.
